We have a great opportunity for a Debt Recovery Advisor in Redhill on a fixed term contract until April 2027 on a salary of £30,000 to £32,000 pa.
As a Debt Recovery Advisor, you will be responsible for collecting payments for water, waste and associated services billed through the HiAffinity system.
You will manage a portfolio of accounts in arrears, taking full end-to-end ownership, and communicate professionally via phone, email and letter to ensure timely payments.
What you’ll be doing
Manage end-to-end query and dispute resolution to support customer satisfaction and debt recovery
Update billing and customer records as required
Promote and convert customers to Direct Debit
Negotiate appropriate payment plans where needed
Ensure billing accuracy, including meter reads, to support correct charges
Trace and contact customers to maximise right-party contact
Produce bills, statements and reconciliations to aid collection
Obtain remittance details to reduce unallocated payments
Liaise with Billing, Finance and Metering teams to resolve issues
Apply or remove late payment and related charges as appropriate
Maintain accurate system updates on recovery actions and communications
Manage cases involving financial difficulty, insolvency or bereavement
Recommend escalation actions (DCA, litigation, disconnection) for uncollectable debt
Contribute to projects and continuous improvement of systems and processes
Support payment allocation and reconciliation activities
Handle queries from third parties and debt collection agencies
Support corporate and consolidated debt accounts
What we’re looking for
Capable of managing complex customer issues, using investigative and problem-solving skills to reach clear resolutions
Previous experience in the utilities sector would be advantageous
Experience in debt recovery, credit control or a similar role or understanding of billing, payments and arrears management
Proven ability to handle queries, disputes and complaint resolution
Knowledge of reconciliation and payment allocation processes
Strong attention to detail with ability to interpret billing data
Excellent communication skills across phone, email and written channels
Ability to manage challenging conversations and sensitive situations
Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise a busy workload
Experience working with internal teams and external stakeholders
